H.R. 5548 (111th): Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010 aka "Internet Kill Switch"is a Congressional bill submitted that is awaiting vote by Congress. The bill gives the President the ability to kill the internet for a period of up to 120 days. Proponents of the bill say it's a preventive measure against cyber threats. In actuality is gives the ability to cut off the internet in case information or a social movement from taking hold. Basically its a Big Brother fail safe plan.

The elites power and control lies in the ignorance of the masses. The internet is a great tool for them however it also can be their worse enemy, this negates that drawback. The bill would in effect allow them to control the internet as they do all other forms of media. Since the internet is wide open meaning anyone can publish to it, the only way to censor fully and to control is to be able to kill it completely until all aspects of the offending information is cleansed - 120 days should be sufficient.
